Celebrating Columbus Day with Italian American Food!
Monday, October 10, 2011 by Nilani TrentColumbus Day is for most of us a day for parades and sleeping in late. But there's so much more to this wonderful holiday than just an extra hour of sleep! Celebrate this three day weekend with some great Italian dishes. Not only is Italian American food absolutely delicious, it's so simple to prepare! So after you wake up, go to the store, grab a bottle (or two) of you favorite Italian wine and try some of our best recipes.
Having a few friends over to celebrate the holiday? Why not make a small pot of Italian Fondue. The blend of Parmigiano reggiano with dry white wine and Piave cheese will really wow your guests!
Making dinner for the family tonight? Serve everyone heaping bowls of delicious Spaghetti Bolognese. Your kids will love this cheesy, meaty classic. If you've never made a Bolognese before, don't be intimated. Make it once and you'll find this dish will soon be a family favorite!
Not looking for a big meal today? No worries, you can still celebrate the Italian way with one of my favorite drinks: the Affogato. Affogatos are generally scoops of vanilla gelato with a shot or two of espresso. Sometimes you can throw in some Amaretto or Sambuca for a little adult treat! Trust me, you'll love it.
