2012 Super Bowl Feast

Tuesday, January 31, 2012 by Nilani Trent

As a football fan I love hosting Superbowl parties. Instead of ordering in, we always cook.   It may seem strange to pair wine with football food, but that’s what I do.  Here are some of my favorite football recipes and wine pairings.

Football Chili:

Heather Lubay's Football Chili

This wonderful recipe was contributed to EatingVine by Heather Lubay.  It takes a little bit of time, 4 hours to prepare, it has nice heat, but not too spicy.  When looking for wines that will compliment a spicy chili, look for wines that have a touch of sweetness.  Don't be afraid to pair white wines with red meat, the higher acidity actually helps balance the spiciness.  You might sacrifice a bit of the fruit on the white, but spicy flavors will do that to wine. EatingVine paired the following wines all under $15:

Turkey and Feta Burgers:

This recipe is a real crowd pleaser.  Be prepared to make extra as guests will want seconds and thirds.

Fried Green Beans:

This is a great recipe if you have a vegetarian in the group.  These are easy to make and really yummy.  Also try my Mustard Dipping Sauce with this recipe.

I hope you enjoy these recipes and wine pairings.  Enjoy the game!
